MXenes are 2D carbides and nitrides of a transition metal, with the most widely studied being Ti₃C₂T_x .The attractiveness of MXenes over graphene for the development of freestanding electrodes is attributed to the surface charge on Ti₃C₂T_x which contributes to its hydrophilicity.  This facilitates more versatile and environmentally friendly fabrication routes. Moreover, its high intrinsic electrical conductivity, large lateral aspect ratio and accessible surface sites.
